Waiakea Water to Switch to a Fully Degradable Bottle in 2018

Hawaiian premium drinking water company, Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water, announced in September 2017 that it would be switching to a 100 percent recyclable plastic and fully degradable bottle in 2018. The move is a significant step aimed at enhancing sustainability, which the company is keen at.

The switch will see the company as the first to apply nano-additive technology. They will intervene in the plastic waste management process by chemically weakening the bottles during the manufacturing procedure. The technique accelerates the natural degradation process as it turns the plastic into a degradable carbon-based wax.

According to Ryan Emmons, the founder and chief executive officer of Waiakea, the achievement comes after years of experimenting. The company now has a patent on the degradation of plastic from the United States.

Presently, Waiakea Volcanic Water uses recycled polyethylene terephthalate, a material that uses less energy to make, to offset the concerns of using plastic bottles. Additional efforts that the company engages in to allow sustainability include practices in their water production efforts aimed at minimizing emissions and lowering the carbon footprint

Their efforts in reducing carbon emissions have seen the company certified CarbonNeutral, a certification given by Natural Capital Partners. It awards enterprises that implement renewable energy practices and reduce emissions.

Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water was founded in 2012 by Ryan Emmons. Access to the volcanic water when he spent time there gave him the inspiration he needed to start a bottled water company that employs unique and sustainable processes.

Their volcanic water goes through a natural filtration process that goes through the most active volcano in the world, Mauna Loa. The mountain peak is located in a remote area away from possible pollution and unnatural additives. As a result, there is a guarantee of the water’s purity.

Before getting to the Waiakea aquifers, it passes through volcanic rocks that enrich it with minerals, calcium, potassium, and electrolytes. It also undergoes purification that removes acid, making it naturally alkaline. These qualities are beneficial to the body which places Waiakea Water among the best brands you can have anywhere in the world.

How Louis Chenevert Left a Legacy at UTC

Louis Chenevert’s time at United Technologies Corporation (UTC) as the chief executive officer was one that was marked by phenomenal success. He established high standards that exceeded what other CEOs could do. One of his largest successes was the acquisition of Goodrich, which, amounting to an 18.4 billion deal, was one that built a huge synergy within the company and what they could supply in-house to their clients.

When Airbus chose Pratt & Whitney, one of UTC’s subsidiaries, for their new engine supplier it was largely due to the efforts of Louis Chenevert. He had pushed for development of new materials which would allow the engine to burn hotter and thus more efficiently. One of the other concepts of this engine that has had longlasting impact is that it decoupled the fan. This change has paid off since as Pratt & Whitney builds even more advanced and larger engines using this technology.

It was at Pratt & Whitney Canada that Louis Chenevert had first joined UTC in 1993. In 1999 he was named as the companies president and in 2006 he was elected as chairman of the board of UTC. He was eventually named CEO and served in this position until he decided to leave UTC on December 8, 2014. After taking some time off he joined Goldman Sachs where he was an advisor in their Merchant Banking Division.

Louis Chenevert is from Canada. He attended HEC Montreal and earned a bachelor’s degree in production management. After earning his degree he found a job at General Motors where he stayed, rising to higher levels of responsibility, for 14 years. Once he started his career at Pratt & Whitney he quickly familiarized himself with their production management policies and how to grow both sides of their business which includes both civil and military aviation.

Over the course of his professional career, Louis Chenevert has been honored several times. He was presented with an honorary doctorate by HEC Montreal, his alma mater, in 2011. It was also in this same year that he was named by Aviation Week & Space Technology as their Person of the Year.

Transparency Is Inherent At Securus Technologies

There is a lot happening at Securus Technologies. But the best thing is that they are completely transparent about it. In fact, they have given an open invitation to their present clients as well as prospective customers about the products they make and their specific features.

This is because Securus Technologies is well aware that people will buy their products only once they know more about them as well as the benefits being provided by them. In this regard, anyone can go and visit their facility and ask for a guided tour.

This is the unique thing about this company. I do not know of any other company except Securus Technologies that is providing such an option to its clients. This also indicates how much confidence Securus Technologies has in its products.

Besides, Securus Technologies is always trying to improve its products. In order to do this, the company is always asking for feedback from its clients. It wants to know how their products are providing safety to the Facilities.

Also, Securus Technologies wants to know about the additional features that the clients will like to get incorporated into these products. This is because innovation is the only option for survival. Since technology is moving at a fast pace, so is the world of criminals.

This means that everyone, including Securus Technologies, has to keep pace. In fact, security is a part of the DNA of everyone at Securus Technologies. All of them are very keen to enhance security in the prisons.

The jail authorities are also keen to solve any previous cases. In this regard, they require the help of criminals. This is not forthcoming. But they can record the conversations between inmates through the help of Securus Technologies. This has helped them many times before in resolving the unsolved cases.

The American Institute of Architects Celebrates 160 Years of Excellence

In 2017, the American Institute of Architects celebrated its 160th birthday. The industry and the institution that represents it have come a long ways over that time span. But the basic principles on which the founders based the organization have proven to be timeless. In the United States, the public’s confidence in the built environment is, perhaps, as high as its ever been. The fact that so few catastrophes relating to the quality of buildings and their design happen in a country so vast is testament to the extreme efficacy with which the American Institute of Architects has executed its mission.

The AIA today

Today, the American Institute of Architects is the de facto model for all such organizations across the globe. It serves as a standard bearer and as a model of ethical uprightness, showing the world what is possible with high standards and ethics. The institution has maintained the rigor and professionalism of the American architectural industry at a level that has been unsurpassed throughout the history of its existence.

All of this has resulted in America becoming the soil upon which the most important architectural schools of the last 150 years have planted their seed and grown to fruition. Even schools that did not originate in the United States, such as Neoclassicism, Beaux Arts and Art Deco, have found their wings in cities across the United States, particularly in the high grandeur of the skyscrapers in cities like Detroit, New York and Chicago. Other schools of architecture, such as the Victorian and Italianate styles that were so popular with wealthy home owners throughout the second half of the 19th century, can almost be fully credited as uniquely American creations, at least in their specific implementations. All of this was made possible by having a strong professional organization that instilled confidence in the public and ensured that the country’s top talent was both recognized and promoted.

The American Institute of Architects is, today, run by renowned architect, scholar and biographer Robert Ivy. During his tenure, the organization has continued to expand, today counting over 90,000 members in its ranks. The institution bequeaths fellowships and awards, with the position of Fellow and the AIA Gold Medal respectively being its highest honors. All of the most brilliant luminaries of American architecture have been high ranking members in the institution, including such names as Frank Lloyed Wright, Daniel Burnham and William LeBaron Jenney

Sahm Adrangi: From Wall Street to Retired at 35

Sahm Adrangi is best known for publishing research and his successful short selling, but he is also the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Kerrisdale Capital Management, having been involved in all aspects of the firm since it was founded in 2009. He has managed the firm to a valuation of $150 million as of July 2017, after beginning it with under $1 million.

Adrangi believes in considering under-followed long sales along with overhyped shorts, and has seen his success occur by understanding aspects of the market others overlook. Kerrisdale researches these misconceptions that affect companies’ most fundamental business workings, and share their research on the company website, Twitter feed, and on third party websites.

In an investment conversation with a journalist, Adrangi discussed his beliefs and his success. He cited his firmly held belief in keeping some secrets, such as the company through which Kerrisdale raised $100 million. While other stockbrokers often will hedge their bets on a certain industry foresee changing quickly, Kerrisdale and Adrangi are working silently behind the scenes to make things happen, and plan to reveal their secrets at a later date.

He teases hints, though, telling that the company involved is worth over $10 billion, and he knows that what he’s done has struck a chord within what he calls the “alternative community.”

Adrangi discusses the companies that Kerrisdale has essentially bet against in the past – including satellite company Globalstar, drug maker Zafgen, and pharmaceutical company Sage Therapeutics – and happily promotes that his company is sitting on north of $500 million themselves because of these groundbreaking sales he has led.

The businessman himself is a Canadian but was born in Iran, and his global viewpoint gives him a unique insight to the world of trade. He describes himself as generally subdued, but get him riled up and the passion spills out. He speaks one line about stock strategy, and his timeliness might speak for his general outlook on business: “Maybe it’s time for us to go nuts.” And gone nuts he has – to the tune of hundreds of millions.
